Absolutely not ‘digital rights management’! Rather, I’m talking about “digital radio mondiale’.

The BBC World Service had a ‘Technology Day’ today at Bush House, our HQ in London. We basically showed off all our cool, new stuff to one another.

DRM is a new way in which you can compress audio (but also video) and send it over AM and specifically short wave (SW) radio signals. It fits in more data at higher quality and uses MPEG-4. The demo showed a recording of a DRM reception in a car which was perfectly clear.

Now, finally, I won’t have a heart attack everytime I hear the term ‘DRM’.
