In direct, price for spec comparisson the Alienware Laptop won. and now..

Why my Desktop is better than your new iMac:

I can run almost every game ever made, I am not restricted to a handful of AAA games, and MMO's - Where is Splinter cell, Hitman, Prey, and Neverwinter Nights 2 for the mac?

I am not told I get awsome graphics power out of a second rate graphics card.
iMac standard config - NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT (128mb) - To get even the 7600 GT (256 mb) on a iMac I need to get a 24" screen.
Desktop standard config - Dual SLI GeForce 7800 GT (512 mb each)
With the right mother board I can even get Quad SLI.

I can run up to 10 HDD natively on my desktop - out of RAID, using new drives that is 5 Terebytes of storage space natively on my Desktop. No extra hardware or software needed. and with the RAID options I can double the best seek times that your iMac can produce.

I have choice! - I don't have to settle for Intel if they make a screw up with their processing again, I can switch to AMD and still be true to my desktop computing.

I don't have to take my desktop machine in when I want to upgrade the hardware - yes I am a techie, but it takes a young person 10 minutes to learn how to replace a harddrive, ram or even a CPU in a Desktop to upgrade. for a mac I need to book it in with Tech Support.

More applications are available for the PC. Yes not having EXE's for mac saves it from almost ALL viruses, but not having EXE's also prevents me from running NAG's monthly DVD.

I would say PC's are more popular as being an advantage - and it happens to be one - for you. Apples are not immune to viruses. it's just that they don't distribute as much. Why? because they hit a PC (which there are more of) and die. PC's have the bane of VBscript - Macs have Applescript - Don't be fooled by the adverts, you are even more likely to get infected now, because I don't think you have Antivirus - You have been warned.

So my PC is boring because it is for business. In it's sleek black case, with matching dual monitors I don't think it looks bad. And Apple must have thought the same - only recently did they release the black iBooks. when is there going to be a black iMac? I don't really like white (silver?).

Try and use my 5.1 THX souround sound system on your iMac... or are you happy with headphones or the built in system speakers?

As for OS software - I can't wait for the rematch when Vista is released.

I was considering actually making a seperate post for this too... but nah. here is fine

1. MY current Windows PC works, now counting 18 months (well since my last serious hardware upgrade) - Thats longer than your OS release has existed.
2. I still have NEVER had a problem with wireless networking, ever... - Actually I lie, once I had no electricity and my wireless network point didn'tlink to my laptop
3. I will give you this one, Windows recorder is rather shocking
4. Windows comes with Media player - funny thing … also WORKS
5. Media player links with windowsmedia.com - also WORKS
6. Wow.. another one where the mac is better..
7. Windows firewall, Login security, NTFS, File encryption?
8. Still has never killed my machine, What DID you do on your PC?
9. So can the Zune :P
10. Still a Memory HOG
11. Strange thing, so does IE.
12. So you agree, I can't use the Mac the box!
13. Not better, just better suited for YOU Tom
14. What is the mac equivalent of Office?
15. Actually they are equal, same processor, same ram, same HDD... No! PC's are in the lead with that - they still beat the Mac's in clock speed
16. Funny thing this Ctrl F - hey… what do you know… it works too
17. Only for you my friend - for me my PC is amazing
18. Windows movie maker. For my Mom's movie making
19. So does every PC with a DVD writer - it's called Nero. But windows does support CD writing natively and Vista supports DVD writing and creating natively
20. Still haven't found ONE widget I truly like or need, they irritate me more than anything.
21. What do you think MSN messenger is? Always has had VoIP capabilities, Live messanger is even better
22. I will have to try iCal one day, but I can send meeting request to anyone with outlook. And it works. Not sure I would want to share my calander from my PC publicly - that's why I have gmail
23. I can RAID my hard drives - can't afford 5 more pc's to cluster them :(
24. Funny thing - so does my new Nokia
25. So do I, that's why I use a PC with Windows and not a Linux machine… or for that matter, a Mac
26. And I do hope they (Victoria, or Mary) never die.
27. Microsoft have those too.. if slightly geekier. I prefer it, I am cooler than most of them. :)
28. It took me all of 1 hour to fall in love with Vista, and it's only in Release Candidate stage

In answer to Mike's insidious comments on a previous post, here's my full comments:

1. But yor Mac is ONLY one style - you can't customize it. And as cool as they are - I don't like them. Although having a PC look like a pink porcelein doggie sounds like fun :P
2. Hey. I still like it
3. I don't - as a rule - install spyware, funny you seemed to. SETI@Home is about the only REAL CPU hogger I use, and even with it taking 100% CPU usage, my machine FLYS
4. If movies, and home websites are your thing... so mac for the personal user, windows for the business, and working users. I think I will get a mac for my kid then
5. I don't only develop in Microsoft, and you should know this. I can develop for any system and in any system. Mac, PC, Unix or other. I just choose the easiest route - funny thing is PC/Windows is that route
6. Not without some extra tools
7. MY Desktop Computer pwns your new iMac, and my Desktop PC is over 12 months old.
8. Actually, old Mecer laptops do, except for the 2 mouse buttons
9. Nope, they tried white, didn't work, went back to the old look, the one that SOLD
10. Ok, I will need a water cooler to stop using fans on mine - but in my home the home theater DVD player sounds louder than my PC fans - strange that your old machine made such a noise - ever thought of using some care - say maybe dust-buster or some such
11. Or maybe it was your G*d awful paint job you did on the case. My machines (even my beige cases) look good and sleek and clean

Apology accepted, I will call my PC Billy-Bob, just to balance it out

Lastly, I work on both platforms, I know what I’m talking about. Do you, Mike?
Do you honestly think I would take up an <strike>argument</strike> discussion on a topic I know nothing about? I have been using Macs, on and off for the last 5 years, from basic email and word processing on the old Power Macintosh 4400 and 9600, to playing around with Bryce 3D on the coloutful iMac. I have supported G4's and G5's, iMac's, and even powerbooks - from email, to networking, to general use. I don't advertise these facts and my Apple Server knowledge is limited, but I am far from being a side-line critic.

Mike, is that better?
YIP :)

Another thing - My PC is cheaper than your MAC:
MAC
PC
And i get a bigger screen :P
