Stealing a secret Saturday afternoon

10:36 pm Update

While Liela was out attracting butterflies and having tea with her friend, Elfie was picked up by Caroline and Austin. There youngest daughter is turning four, and her birthday party was on Saturday afternoon.

Initially my plan was to take Elfie to Guildford myself, and then g cycling on the River Wey towpath. However, the weather had turned quite cold, with the worst and heaviest snow in six years expected in England. This made me think twice about cycling, as I’m not yet ready fro snowbiking.

With the weather in mind, I didn’t think twice when Caroline volunteered to pick up Elfie and drop her off again after the party. They came by shortly after two, and sudden;y the house was quiet.

Kobra and I found ourselves alone for the afternoon. Sure, we had Katie with us, but more than half our children gone (66%), we almost felt like students again.

We jumped in Rosie and headed over the North Downs towards Gomshall. There’s a lovely restaurant in an old Mill, and we’re looking for venues to celebrate Katie’s christening in two weeks’ time.

Kobra and I (and Katie) had a lovely afternoon in the old Gomshall Mill. There’s a stream running underneath the restaurant, and everything is at odd angles and warmed by fires. The restaurant is part of the Blubecker’s chain, and it was honestly the best service we have received anywhere in England.

The setting, atmosphere and service contributed to us having a lovely romantic afternoon. We had a platter to share and some red wine, and the food was delicious.

Sometimes the most romantic of times cannot be planned.
