Drop Knee Blog Podcast Ep5 - Sentinel
On the road
Our first day on our way to the Sentinel. The road trip is part of the fun! Here’s a breakdown:
- Introduction, no excuses
- I left home at about 8:30 for Alan’s
- Sans Sandra, schedule bit messed up
- Arrived, and quickly transferred to his Nissan
- Drove the 40km to Bobbo, got lost
- Packed the car, three guys and 4 kitchen sinks
- Extremely excited, 4 and ½ hour road trip
- Discuss nonsense like sandstone
- Listen to podcasts – our own!
- First view of the berg!
- Long, long trip, becomes frustrating
- Finally at Wimpy, actually only about 2 and ½ hours from Jhb
- Carbo load for trip: Alan’s lunch
- Leave HS for WH, through Qwa-Qwa

This was still nearly a hundred kilometers from the mountains. Check the section in the podcast on appraching the escarpment. It is truly something from a science-fiction movie: this wall of basalt like a natural barrier across the continent:
